Introduction:

The thioglycollate test involves inoculating bacteria into a number of tubes with the thioglycollate medium. This is a reducing medium that is able to establish an oxygen gradient in the tube, with the top of the tube having highest amount of oxygen and the bottom lacking any oxygen.
