Question
Chapter 19, Problem 25QAP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The geometry of the complex
Concept introduction:
The geometry of any complex is the spatial arrangement of ligands around the central metal cation. The chemical and most of the physical properties of the complex depend on this geometrical arrangement.
When the same ligands are on the same side around central atom, then the arrangement is ‘cis’ while the same ligands arranged on opposite side of the central atom shows a “trans” geometry.
The number of ligands attached to the metal cation shows its co-ordination number.
