Monobromination of Toluene takes place as follows –

Methyl group in toluene is electron releasing group. Presence of electron releasing group on benzene ring increases the electron density at ortho- and para- positions of the benzene ring. Thus the electrophile Br+ in this reaction is bonded to ortho and para positions of toluene which are the two major products of monobromination.
