Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Hemostasis is defined as the process of stopping of bleeding. There are hemostatic mechanisms designed within the body to prevent blood loss, which, if continued unchecked, may lead to death.
Blood coagulation takes place by two separate mechanisms. In the extrinsic pathway, factors external to blood, for example, those released by injured blood vessels start the process of coagulation. In the intrinsic pathway, factors within the blood start the coagulation process.
