To discuss:
Blood groups other than the ABO and Rh groups and their usefulness.
Introduction:
Classifying individuals based on their blood types is based on the presence or absence of antigens on the surface of RBCs. The two main blood typing systems are the ABO system and the Rh system. The ABO system classifies individuals based on the presence of antigens A and B on their RBCs, whereas the Rh blood grouping system classifies individuals based on the presence of antigens, called Rh antigens, on the surface of RBCs. These Rh antigens are completely independent of the presence of the ABO antigens, but the blood types from both these groups are reported together, for example, O˗, AB+, A+, etc., referring to type O, Rh-negative; type AB, Rh-positive; type A, Rh-positive, respectively.
