Chapter 18, Problem 62QRT
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Among fossil fuel power plant and nuclear power plant, the one that exposes the community to more nuclear radiation has to be explained.

Concept Introduction:

Nuclear energy and radiation has both useful and harmful effects.  Nuclear weapons are used to harm and nuclear isotopes are also used in medicines to cure.  Nuclear radiation such as alpha, beta, and gamma disrupt the normal cells in the living organisms by interaction of the important biomolecules that is present in the cells and breaking the covalent bonds resulting in production of radicals.

Humans are always exposed to natural and artificial background radiation.  Background radiation sources are cosmic radiation, radioactive elements and minerals that are found in natural resources.

Condensation polymers are produced when monomers containing two different functional groups link together with the loss of a small molecule such as H2O.       The difunctional monomer H2N(CH2)6COOH forms a condensation polymer. Draw the carbon-skeleton structure of the dimer that forms from this monomer.
What is the structure of the monomer?
