Compare large telescope mirror with large telescope lens.
Answer to Problem 1MC
Option (d) has no advantages.
Explanation of Solution
It is possible to use both mirrors and telescope lens in order to observe the objects in the universe like stars and study the dark matter. If the size of the telescope mirror or lens is large, it is possible to catch all the lights coming from the distant objects.
As size of the large telescope mirror or lens increases there would be less blurring which is caused by the diffraction of light. Moreover the size matters the resolving power of the two object those are close.
Conclusion:
As it is possible to use both lens and mirror in large telescope the properties of the image formed is almost same in all. Therefore there is no specific advantage over large telescope lens. Thus option (d) is correct.
In order to make an image of distant object perfect, the number of mirrors and size of the mirrors matter. Thus option (a) is incorrect.
Optical properties are same for lens and mirror therefore option (b) is incorrect.
For higher magnification only size of the telescope matters therefore option (c) is also incorrect.
