The anterior pituitary is regulated by the six hormones that are produced by the hypothalamus. Out of these, four are releasing hormones, and the rest two are inhibiting hormones. Releasing hormones stimulate the anterior pituitary, whereas inhibiting hormones suppress the action of the pituitary.
