Chapter 17.L2, Problem 4CT
Summary Introduction

To determine:

  1. The titer of the antibody shown in figure 17.10b.
  2. What would the interpretation be if the titer was 40?
  3. Which patients show positive result in figure 17.11 part III?
  4. What would it mean if the titer was 280 2 weeks later?
  5. What would it mean if no agglutination has occurred in any tube?

Introduction:

This figure 17.10b shows agglutination reaction and figure 17.11 shows precipitation reaction, in which the Ag-Ab complex precipitates out and form aggregate at the bottom of the tube. The titer of antibody in a patient’s serum is suggestive of immune capacity of a person. Higher the titer, greater is the agglutination in agglutination reaction.
