Introduction:
Cortisol is one of the kinds of glucocorticoids. This hormone is secreted from the second (middle) layer of the adrenal cortex. The main function of this endocrine hormone is to increase the catabolism (breakdown) of the nutrients to increase the nutrient levels in the blood. This generally occurs during stress or starvation.
