Concept introduction: Ulceration or sore that develops in the protective mucosal lining of the lower esophagus, stomach or duodenum is called peptic ulcers. The severity of peptic ulcers differs from single or multiple, acute or chronic, and superficial or deep. The inner lining of the abdomen that is involved in the covering and supporting the abdominal organs is known as peritoneum. The inflammation of the peritoneum that causes chemical irritation or bacterial invasion is known as peritonitis.
