Concept introduction: The condition in which a person has hard feces and is difficult to expel is known as constipation. Constipation will occur when more water is absorbed by the colon. Colon will absorb more water when the muscles in the colon contract slowly or poorly. The slow or poor contraction of muscles present in the colon will lead to slow movement of stool. Laxatives are the medications that are prescribed for constipation. Laxatives are medicines that help in increasing the bowel movements.
