The relationship between peristalsis and receptive relaxation.

Introduction:

Peristalsis is the rhythmic propelling movement that occurs within the alimentary canal. It is a wavelike motion involves ring contraction on the wall of tube. When muscles relax after the peristaltic contraction, a receptive relaxation phenomenon is be generated. Peristalsis occurs when the food expands to the tube. As the peristaltic wave of the contraction runs towards the tube, the contents within tube also run across the tube.
