Convex mirrors are the curved mirrors whose reflective surface bulges out. The images formed by convex mirrors are always virtual, diminished and erect, irrespective of the object distance in front of the mirror.
Since the convex mirrors always form a diminished and erect image of an object, it provides a wide field of view to the user. This enables a car driver to see the large traffic area behind the car and also forms a smaller image in comparison to an object. Hence, it is used as a rearview mirror in the cars.
