Steroid is an organic molecule characterized by seventeen carbon atoms and a four-ring skeletal structure. Three of them are six-membered rings and one is a five-membered ring. Hormones are a part of larger groups called steroids. Examples of steroids are progestin, cortisone and prednisone.
