To explain: The reason why the individuals with a thiamine deficient diet have high relatively high levels of pyruvate in their blood.

Concept introduction: Vitamin B₁ is known as thiamine. It is synthesized by bacteria, plants and fungi. Human body cannot synthesize thiamine so; it has to be taken through diet. The long term deficiency of thiamine may be lethal to human being.
