The transportation of oxygen by the red blood cells (RBCs) involves the loading and unloading reactions. The bonding of oxygen with the hemoglobin in the lungs is termed as the loading reaction. The unloading of oxygen in the tissues from the hemoglobin is termed as the unloading reaction.
