Chapter 16, Problem 40P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The 3S,7S and 3S,7R stereoisomers of dianeackerone are to be drawn.

Concept introduction:

Stereoisomers are those compounds that differ in their stereochemistry around any one chiral carbon. They are designated as R,S, and the designation is based on the rotation of eye in moving from higher priority group (one which has higher molecular weight marked as 1) to lower ones (marked as 2,3 and 4, with 4 having the lowest priority). If the eye rotation is clockwise, the designation is R, and if anticlockwise, the designation is S.

Also, if the lowest priority group is above the plane, the designation is reversed.

When 15.00 mL of 3.00 M NaOH was mixed in a calorimeter with 12.80 mL of 3.00 M HCl, both initially at room temperature (22.00 C), the temperature increased to 29.30 C. The resultant salt solution had a mass of 27.80 g and a specific heat capacity of 3.74 J/Kg. What is heat capacity of the calorimeter (in J/C)? Note: The molar enthalpy of neutralization per mole of HCl is -55.84 kJ/mol.
