Explanation of Solution

The bacteria such as Mycobacterium have cell walls with a high lipid content such as waxy material called mycolic acid. It is a complex lipid that is composed of fatty acids and fatty alcohols that contain hydrocarbon chains upto 80 carbons in length. This compound affects the staining properties of Mycobacterium and prevents it from being stained by many stains used in microbiology.
