The autonomic nervous system helps in the control and coordination of body activity, which comes under the central nervous system. The ANS helps in regulating the voluntary and involuntary activity of the body. It is subdivided into the sympathetic, parasympathetic and enteric nervous system. They differ from each other anatomically. It helps in increasing and decreasing the activity of different structures. They have either local or general effect on the body.
