Concept introduction:

In amines, the nitrogen atom is trivalent and carries an unshared pair of electrons. The nitrogen is sp3 hybridized that is it has four sp3 hybrid orbitals. In primary amine, two hybridized orbitals overlap with the s orbitals of hydrogen atoms to form two NH sigma bonds.
