To determine

To Identify: The physical characteristic of a sound wave that should be changed to alter the pitch of sound and its loudness.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

The pitch of a sound is related to the frequency of vibration while the loudness of a sound is related to the amplitude of the pressure wave.

The pitch of a sound alters on changing the frequency of vibration. The sensitiveness of the ear is not equal to all frequencies. Thus, on changing the frequency of vibration, the pitch also changes.

Sound’s loudnessis based on the amplitude of the pressure wave. Ones’ ear is very sensitive to pressure variation in sound waves, which is the amplitude of the wave.

Conclusion:

The pitch of a sound alters on changing the frequency of vibration.

Sound’s loudness can be alteredby changing the amplitude of the pressure wave.
