To describe: The way in which the two-neuron chain in the autonomic nervous system (ANS) facilitates communication and control.
Concept introduction: The autonomic nervous system is a functional division of the peripheral nervous system. It is structurally and functionally divided into two parts, namely the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS). The sympathetic nervous system is often referred to as fight-or-fight division. The preganglionic neuron of the sympathetic system originated from the thoracic and lumbar regions of the spinal cord. The parasympathetic division is also called as the ‘rest-and-digest’ division.
