Solution

To find: The time taken by an object dropped from certain height.

The egg container travels 100 ft distance in 2.493 seconds.

Given data:

The egg container is dropped from the height of 100 feet.

Method/Formula used:

The time t taken by an object dropped from height y in time t is given by $y=\frac{1}{2}g{t}^2$ , g is acceleration due to gravity $g=32.17\text{ft}\cdot {\text{s}}^{\text{-}\text{2}}$ .

Calculations/Graph:

The relation between vertical distance y travelled in time t is given by

  

  $\begin{array}{c}y=\frac{1}{2}\left(32.17\right)t^2\\ =16.09t^2\end{array}$

The graph of function $y=16.09t^2$ is shown in Fig. (1).

From the graph it is clear that corresponding to $y=100$ there exists a point $t=2.493$ on the graph of the function $y=16.09t^2$ . That shows the egg container when dropped from the height of 100 feet travels this distance in 2.493 seconds.
