Cells behave differently from those shown in Figure 15A-1a not just when they are cultured in three-dimensional ECMs as in Figure 15A-1b, but also when they are cultured on flat ECMs that are not attached to the bottom of a culture dish. What do you think three-dimensional cultures and these detached ECM cultures have in common that is different from a plastic dish?
