Field goal attempt Near the end of the 1950 Rose Bowl football game between the University of California and Ohio State University. Ohio State was preparing to attempt a field goal from a distance of 23 yd from the endline at point A on the edge of the kicking region (see figure). But before the kick. Ohio State committed a penalty and the ball was backed up 5 yd to point B on the edge of the kicking region. After the game, the Ohio State coach claimed that his team deliberately committed a penalty to improve the kicking angle. Given that a successful kick must go between the uprights of the goal posts G1 and G2, is ∠G1BG2 greater than ∠G1AG2? (In 1950, the uprights were 23 ft 4 in apart, equidistant from the origin on the end line. The boundaries of the kicking region are 53 ft 4 in apart and are equidistant from the y-axis. She can afford to buy 108 ft? of earpeting. What dimensions should the rug have? 2:A kite is fying on 50 ft. of string. Its vertical distance from the ground is 10 ft. more than its horizontal distance from the person flying it. Assuming that the string is being held at ground level, find its horizontal distance from the person and its vertical distance from the ground.arrow_forwardSuppose you wanted to draw a quadrilateral using the dots below as vertices (corners). The dots are spaced one unit apart horizontally and two units apart vertically. How many quadrilaterals are possible? How many are squares? How many are rectangles? How many are paralellograms? squares. rectangles. quadrilaterals. parallelograms. How many are trapezoids? (Here, as is calculus, a trapezoid is defined as a quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel sides. In particular, parallelograms are trapezoids.) trapezoids. How many are trapezoids that are not paralleograms?arrow_forwardA dowsing rod is a "Y" or "L" shaped instrument that some believe can find ground water. Many dowsers today use a pair of simple L-shaped metal rods. One rod is held in each hand, with the short arm of the L held upright, and the long arm pointing forward. When something is found, the rods cross over one another making an "X" over the found object. Skeptics of dowsing conducted an experiment to see if dowsing rods could find ground water. Five identical 3 foot by 3 foot plots of land were sectioned off and a container of water was buried in one of the plots. A summary of the experiment results and the output for the goodness-of-fit test follow. Choose the correct null and alternative hypothesis. 1 Click the icon to view the summary and output. O A. Ho: The dowsing rods work better at locating ground water than guessing. Summary and output Ha: The dowsing rods work no better at locating ground water than guessing. O B. Ho: The dowsing rods correctly identify the location of ground water…arrow_forward
