Is combustion an inherently irreversible process, Why or why not.
Answer to Problem 1E
The combustion is a highly irreversible process.
Explanation of Solution
Combustion reactions are usually known as an irreversible process. It takes place when any specific fuel burns. During combustion reaction, an organic species containing the mixture of hydrogen and carbon atoms gets reacted with oxygen to give water and carbon dioxide. Here, carbon and hydrogen acts as reactants and water and carbon dioxide are products of the combustion reaction.
The combustion process cannot call as reversible process since conversion of carbon dioxide to hydrocarbons takes infinity period of time.
Hence, the combustion is a highly irreversible process.
