Explanation The term “lymphopoieses” is defined as the production of lymphocytes. It involves peripheral lymphoid tissues, thymus, and bone marrow. The population of normal lymphocytes is maintained by the red bone marrow. Lymphocyte classification: The lymphocytes circulating in the blood are of three types, namely B-cells, T-cells, and NK-cells. The T-cells constitute 80% of circulating lymphocytes. It is further classified into suppressor T-cells, helper T-cells, and cytotoxic T-cells. The B-cells constitute around 5% to 10% of circulating lymphocytes. NK-cells constitute 5% to 10% of circulating lymphocytes. Importance of lymphocytes: Cytotoxic T-cells: These cells attack foreign cells or virus-infected body cells by direct contact. These cells are accountable for cell-mediated immunity, which is called cellular immunity. Helper T-cells: The main role of these cells is to stimulate the activation as well as functions of B-cells and T-cells. Suppressor T-cells: The activation as well as the function of B-cells and T-cells is inhibited by suppressor T-cells. The interaction between helper T-cells and suppressor T-cells helps in establishing as well as regulating the sensitivity of the immune response...
