Summary Introduction

Introduction

Realistic conflict theory posits that limited resources lead to conflicts between different groups and often result in prejudice and discrimination. Researcher Muzafer Sherif and his colleagues once tested this theory through the use of the natural environment of a Boy Scout camp called Robber’s Cave. The study participants were separated into two groups and competed with and later attacked one another; however, this study also pointed out an important lesson about how to reduce group hostilities.
