Management and leadership are two different terms though they can be used interchangeably. A good manager comes into existence when he has good leadership skills as well.

Leadership can be defined as an action of leading a group of members with a view to lead them towards achieving goal. Leadership and management are often considered same however there is a lot of difference between them in terms of motivation, organization, delegation, planning, thinking, communication, etc.

The given information is about difference between leadership and management.

Leadership is the action of a leader to lead others towards attaining goal. They inspire, motivate and encourage others. Maintenance and task needs are important for effective leadership in helping individuals as well as groups to achieve the goals. To be a good manager it is important to be a good leader.

Management is a process that consists of planning, controlling, directing and organizing while leadership is a social relationship that has influence on the subordinates. Managers are made or they come into position while leaders emerge out of situation due to followers' acceptance or rejection. Larger organizations are responsible for manager's power while leaders derive it from followers. Managers motivate through extrinsic processes like rewards and punishments while leaders do it through intrinsic processes like creating confidence in the minds of followers.
