Introduction:
The contraction of diaphragm as well as the external intercostal muscles leads to increased intrapulmonary volume. This increase in intrapulmonary volume leads to a decrease in the pressure of the air within the lungs. This pressure drop creates a partial vacuum and results in an inward rush of air, bringing inspiration.
