Trouton's ruleis a generalization which states that for most of the liquids the value of the entropy of vaporization is approximately 85 J /mol K. The mathematical expression for Trouton’s rule is:

ΔS°vap = ΔH°vapTbp = 85 J/mol.K

Here, ΔS°vap  indicates the standard entropy of vaporization and ΔH°vap  is the standard enthalpy of vaporization whereas Tbp is the boiling point of substance.
