Sequence models called consensus sequence models are used till date for sequencing base sequences. Consensus sequences being concise are used to mark the position of a base as a motif in the sequence. For example, Escherichia coli consists of a repetitive base sequence called the consensus sequence located at -10 sequence of promotor called (pribnow box) and at -35 sequence (TATATA box).
