Explanation The spinal cord is a tubular organ. It is protected by the vertebral cavity and is long in structure. It arises from the foramen magnum and ends in the first and second lumbar region. The foramen magnum is seen in the skull. The spinal cord is attached to the inferior part of the brain stem in the foramen magnum. The location of the spinal cord is depicted in the diagram below:
