A unit of measurement which has a fixed value is called a standard unit of measurement. It is normally expressed in kilograms, grams, meters and centimeters in the metric system.

A standard unit of measurement is required to bring in more accuracy and minimize confusions. The use of standard units makes it easier for people from every part of the country to communicate with each other. For proper dealing, there should be a uniform measurement which is called standard units. SI units are generally used as the standard unit of measurement.
