Case summary:
The case explains about the Generation Y people who were between the year 1980 and 2001. They are the successors to baby boomers who are at their retirement stage. These Gen Y people are said to be tech-savvy, achievement-oriented and attention craving.
Gen Y people are said to possess a sense of entitlement which makes them have numerous expectations when comparing other employees. They expect recognition, higher pay, periodic pay rise, generous vacation and personal time. Gen Y employees anticipate immediate feedback and validation for their work.
Gen Y employees seem to be tension centric due to their achievement-oriented attitude. Concerned about this issue, many companies like company G had allowed their employees to work on their own preferred project for one day a week. Company SM has provided flexibility to the employees by allowing them to work from their home and has implemented the concept of floating office.
To determine: Whether Gen Y, with respect to effort such as MBA oath, will bring a different approach in the business environment when compared with prior generation.
