Question
Chapter 12, Problem 1P
To determine
Check the whether the arrangement of the batteries are in series or parallel for Hand-held calculator (TI 85), flash light and portable radio.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
The battery connection for the products as follows:
- Hand-held calculator (TI 85): The batteries in series give deep power cycle operation. TI 85 model Hand-held calculator has two batteries a series combination of four alkaline batteries and one lithium battery.
These two are parallel arrangement to connect with the input terminals of the calculator circuit.
- Flash light: The flash light employs the batteries are connection mostly in series to bring the sum of voltage applied to the light for the deep power cycle operation. The deep power cycle operation makes a single path to the charge flow.
In some cases parallel connections also preferred where longer life cycle is preferred.
- Portable radio: Portable radio is employs the series combination of batteries to sum the voltage for the input voltage level.
The arrangement of batteries is shown in Table 1.
Product | Batteries connection |
Hand-held calculator (TI 85) | Series or series and parallel |
Flash light | Series or parallel |
Portable radio | Series |
Thus, the batteries are connected for the products hand-held calculator, flashlight, and portable radio are discussed.
