Concept introduction: The death of the tissue that occurs due to the insufficient blood supply to the affected area is called infarction. Infarction is mainly caused by artery blockages, vasoconstriction, or rupture. The lesion formed as a result of infarction is called an infarct. When the blood flow decreases or stops to a portion of the heart, it will cause damages to the heart muscle. This medical condition is called myocardial infarction.
