The medulla oblongata is the inferior part of the brain stem. It is the junction of the spinal cord and the brain. It is an autonomic reflex center that maintains body homeostasis. It regulates the blood pressure by changing the diameter of blood vessels. It generates respiratory rhythm and regulates other activities, like vomiting, hiccupping, swallowing, coughing, and sneezing.
