The particle moves in a series of1-unit “jumps,” each one in a random direction, any one of12 equally likely possibilities. One way to choose directions is to roll a fair die and toss a fair coin. The die determines one of the directions 1–6, coupled with heads on the coin. Tails on the coin reverses the direction of the die, so that the die coupled with tails gives directions 7–12. That3h (meaning3 with the die and heads with the coin) gives direction 3;3t gives direction 9 (opposite to 3); and so on.
