Introduction:
Excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP) moves the membrane potential closer to the threshold at the trigger zone. However, a single EPSP is not enough to trigger an action potential as it is a small, local depolarization. To trigger an action potential, many EPSP areadded together, whichcauses a much greater overall effect and generates an action potential. Thephenomenon thatadds the input of several postsynaptic potentials to produce an action potential at trigger zone is called summation.
