Flats Versus Heels A woman might wear a pair of flat shoes to work during the day as in Figure 11-61 (a), but a pair of high heels Figure 11-61 (b), when going out for the evening. Assume that each foot supports half her weight. w = W/2 = 279 N, and that the forces exerted by the floor on her feet occur at the points A and B in both figures. Find the forces FA (point A) and FB (point B) for (a) flat shoes and (b) high heels. (c) How have the high heels changed the weight distribution between the woman’s heels and toes?

- A One end of a metal rod of weight Fg and length L presses against a corner between a wall and the floor (Fig. P14.64). A rope is attached to the other end of the rod. Find the magnitude of the tension in the rope if the angle between the rod and the rope is 90.arrow_forward(a) What force should the woman in Figure 9.45 exert on the floor with each hand to do a push-up? Assume that she moves up at a constant speed. (b) The triceps muscle at the back of her upper arm has an effective lever arm of 1.75 cm, and she exerts force on the floor at a horizontal distance of 20.0 cm from the elbow joint. Calculate the magnitude of the force in each triceps muscle, and compare it to her weight. (c) How much work does she do if her center of mass rises 0.240 m? (d) What is her useful power output if she does 25 pushups in one minute?arrow_forwardIn figure (mass = 70 kg) uses crutched. The crutches each make an angle of 0 = 250 with the vertical. Half the standard B, a standard man man's weight is supported by the crutches; the other half is supported by the normal force acting on the sole of the feet. Assuming the standard man is motionless, calculate the magnitude of the force supported by each crutch Fig. B HUAWEI P30 lite TRIPLE CAMERAarrow_forward

A 120-lb girl is walking up a 48-lb uniform beam as shown in the figure below. Determine how far up the beam the girl can walk before the beam starts to slip if (a) the coefficient of friction is 0.20 at all surfaces and (b) the coefficient of friction at the bottom end of the beam is increased to 0.40 by placing a piece of rubber between the beam and the floor. 6A 2021.06.22 09:43arrow_forward
- A uniform ladder 6.5 m long weighing 410 N rests with one end on the ground and the other end against a perfectly smooth vertical wall. The ladder rises at 65.0 degrees above the horizontal floor. A 730 N painter finds that she can climb 2.55 m up the ladder, measured along its length, before it begins to slip. 1) What force does the wall exert on the ladder? Express your answer in newtons. 2) Find the friction force that the floor exerts on the ladder. Express your answer in newtons.\ 3) Find the normal force that the floor exerts on the ladder. The quadriceps muscle (3) applies a force to the lower leg via a tendon (4) that is embedded with the kneecap (5). If the force applied by the muscle to the tendon is F 570 N, what is the force of the femur on the kneecap, if the leg is in equilibrium? A simplified model of the leg is shown next to the diagram. The leg bones are represented by two beams attached by a pin. The tendon is modelled by a rope and the kneecap acts like a pulley. The tendon above the kneecap makes an angle 8, = 38° with respect to the vertical, and the portion of the tendon below the kneecap makes an angle of 6₂ = 10° with respect to the vertical. Enter the x component, followed by the y component.
