Concept Introduction: Mitosis and cytokinesis (cytoplasmic division) results in the transfer of a parent cell genome into two daughter cells. Mitosis is preceded by the S stage of interphase and is followed by cytoplasmic division, which will divide the cytoplasm, organelles, and cell membrane into two daughter cells. Since the prokaryotic cells lack a nucleus, mitosis occurs only in the eukaryotic cells.
