The melanocytes are present in the stratum basale layer of the skin epidermis, hair follicles, eyes, and ears. The melanocytes are originated from the neural crest. These are responsible for the production of melanin pigment. The melanocytes are branched and dendritic. The dendrites are involved in the transfer of the granules of melanin pigments to the adjacent cells of epidermis.
