Exposures to ionizing radiation are very dangerous and can be fatal too.  The effect of minimum whole body radiation to human health is unknown.  If the radiation is in larger dosage then it can cause serious damage or even death.  A rem is unit that is used for the quantity of ionizing radiation that can be absorbed by human which can produce the same biological effect as of X-rays of 1 roentgen.
