Introduction:

The arrangement of myofilaments within myofibrils enables the muscles to contract. The sarcomere is the basic unit of muscle contraction. A single sarcomere unit extends from one Z-disc to another Z-disc. Besides Z-disc, a sarcomere unit also has one full A (anisotropic) band and half units of two I (isotropic) hands.
