The perioral region is the region surrounding the mouth. It is the region that surrounds the mouth and includes the lips. In the perioral region, the skin is thick and the underlying tissue is soft and dense. This muscle has an external covering of skin and an internal covering of mucosa. This muscle is a major contributor to the structure of lips.
