Neurons are specialized nerve cells that transmit nerve impulses. A neuron involves a cell body, nerve fibres (dendrites and an axon) in its structure.
The axon functions to transmit messages to different body parts such as muscles, other neurons, cells and glands. Axons are nerve fibres o neurons that conduct nerve impulses (action potential) far from the body. Numbers of axon are present in the nerves that make up the peripheral nervous system.
