Introduction:

Smooth muscles have short and spindle shaped cells, and the actin and myosin filaments are spread all over the cells. The Ca²⁺ requirement of the cells is fulfilled either by extracellular uptake or from intracellular storage. These muscles are found in the respiratory and digestive tract of the body and are involved in the peristaltic movement, and the reproductive secretions.
