Concept explainers
Introduction :
Skeletal muscle is also called voluntary muscle. These muscles help in the movement of the body parts. Skeletal muscles are presently connected with the skeleton by tendons. A skeletal muscle fiber is present as long thin fibers which are called skeletal muscle fibers. Their main function is to perform daily activities and movements and maintain posture and balance.
Answer to Problem 1DYKB
Correct answer :
The correct answer is option (d) skeletal muscle fiber.
Explanation of Solution
Explanation/justification for the correct answer :
Option (d) skeletal muscle fiber. The skeletal muscle is composed of numerous small muscle fibers, these muscle fibers are long and cylindrical and together form an organ that is skeletal muscle. Now, this muscle fiber is surrounded by a connective tissue called the endomysium. So, the correct answer is option (d).
Explanation for incorrect answer :
Option (a) myofibril. Myofibrils are bundles of different myofilaments. These myofibrils are present as the compact of several thin and thick myofilaments. They are not surrounded by endomysium. So, this is an incorrect option.
Option (b) fascicle. The fascicle is the part of the skeletal muscle that contains many muscle fibers together. It is a small cylinder bundle. The fascicle is surrounded by the perimysium, not by the endomysium. So, this is an incorrect answer.
Option (c) myofilament. Myofilaments are the protein filaments present in the muscle cells. The proteins are actin, myosin, and titin. There are two types of them, thick and thin, the thick myofilaments are surrounded by the thin myofilaments, not by the endomysium. So, this is an incorrect option.

- magine that you are conducting research on fruit type and seed dispersal. You submitted a paper to a peer-reviewed journal that addresses the factors that impact fruit type and seed dispersal mechanisms in plants of Central America. The editor of the journal communicates that your paper may be published if you make ‘minor revisions’ to the document. Describe two characteristics that you would expect in seeds that are dispersed by the wind. Contrast this with what you would expect for seeds that are gathered, buried or eaten by animals, and explain why they are different.
